The Isle of Id is the chronicle of Jor, the Great Carrier, who delivered a precious vial of Kamed to the dying Queen, Lady Eisler, thus saving the Isle from a second coming of warm Dark.

But Jor would not describe it that way at all.

Jor holds himself to be a weak, fumbling failure in so many aspects. The chronicle, however, tells of the many ways in which Jor rediscovers through trial and tribulation that he is in fact worthy of the title of Great Carrier, for he had done much in his life:

Jor became an accomplished Snowcrafter, learning both Words of Spelling and Relations under the tutelage of the mythical and mysterious recluse Winterbeard.

Jor became an adroit hunter and trader, once a member of the prestigious Whalers, great sailors who hawk and barter their fine oils and meats.

Jor became an adept literist, once a resident scrivener of the Church of Ice.

Restless and unfulfilled in all stations, he returns to Schneewil to live out the rest of his days quietly, becoming a courier at the local Post Guild, and never once fails a delivery.

The legend is told in two tales intertwined into one, exactly as it was passed down, generation by generation, before being immortalized by the seven Great Painters in the grand halls of the Crown’s very own keep: Jor’s past meeting his future.

Carrying his charge drives him to far-flung and extreme corners of the Isle. Likewise, as he travels, Jor’s mind is forced to revisit every extreme corner of his past as he is confronted with every obstacle imaginable: snowy peaks impossible to climb, unending dry deserts impossible to cross, and snowed-in downs impossible to traverse. And all the while he is pursued by Emissaries of the Church and members of the Whalers, hunted by ice bears, and heckled by a treacherous, cunning dark Shade who will stop at nothing to prevent Jor from delivering his tiny, precious parcel.

Jor’s journey brings him to a myriad of communities that dot the Isle, each stranger than the last. There is a city built of retired ships upon the ocean. A small town that cultivates a pine tree with sap-like healing oil. And far off in the north, a frozen-in Winter’s Keep that sits resolute but lonesome upon an Isle of its own.

The Isle of Id is an adult mythic fantasy novel that tells the tale of an aging man both rediscovering and honoring his past, and how his determination and actions affect friend, foe, and stranger alike in ways unforeseeable and far-reaching.
